Where eva theres Cichla!!!
hey guys..

I was just wondering whether or not u could have a planted tank with umbee's, i'm guessing it's a no! however my tanks lookin a lil boring and i would really like to give it ago.. If u are able to keep plants with umbees can anyone suggest a hardy enuf plant that i could use? and sum pics would be great :)

Ya guessed correctly. "No" is the final answer when it comes to umbees. and plants

However, I've seen several tanks with false backs. They're, in essence, double tanks. The front tank holds the aggressive, scenery altering, cichlids. And, the rear tank holds the live plants. If you plumb the 2 together, you'll have yourself a freshwater refugium at a full tank-length scale.

there are things that you could try such as:

--getting a piece of eggcrate and cutting it to the footprint of the tank. use the plastic grid to tie down the plants to

--use large rocks and/or large pieces of wood to tie plants to

many people use fishing line to tie plants down with and of course you'd want the sturdiest plants possible. these options will help prevent the umbee from uprooting the plants but you'll still run the risk of the umbee shredding or eating the plants.
