does anyone know if this hybred is possible?if so how large would the umbee have to be to sex for sure?i have a 6"lady dovii currently and i would like to order a 6"male umbee to grow out in a 125 . so what do u guys think will a "6lady dovii and a 6"male umbee be able to spawn and live well in a125 for a year or so before a tank upgrade.:feedback:
 
Finding a 6in male umbriferum won't be easy. As far as putting them together I think the aggressiveness between the two would lead to death.
 
I got some baby umbee's last week they are only a inch long but in 6-8 months i should have some sexualy mature fish. I have kept 6 dovii grow outs they are 2-3" so as soon as the umbee's catch up in size i will put them all in 1 tank and hope for a pair. If it does not work that easy i will put 1 of each sex in a single tank in hopes that they will spawn. It is a long shot i don't evan know if it is a possable cross but i want a full grown male umbee x dovii hybrid the only way to get 1 is make it myself i will update this thread if i can ever produce the fry wish me luck i will need a wheel barrel full.
 
that would be an insane combo. both are nasty individually. good luck
 
I have high hopes it's going to work out i have a 6"male umbee and a 5" female dovii they are getting along great now! The first few months where tough i had to seperate the dovii from umbee several times in the last six months but now i think i have a wining pair. They are beating up the pleco as a team keeping him out of the flower pot spawning area don't worry tho the pleco has been moved lol. They are also are digging pits in the gravel and doing the spawning dances the shimmering,shuttering,lip lock etc..I hope to see eggs any day now! I will post a pic for u guys when they spawn.
 
A male and female combo may work. I have a male Dovii that allows a female Festae to be around him(no aggression) I also have a male Red Tiger Motaguense that has breed with my female Jaguar Managuense and no problems even when not breeding. But my male Dovii and Male Red Tiger hates each other and both stay on there own side of their territory for the majority of the time. I would love to see a DoviiXUmbee, my friend has a male Umbee and it is an awesome fish, and I am pretty sure this combo will be able to breed.
