In one aquarium at AAA Aquarium there was one Piranha Fish about 5" long and a pair of Convict Cichlids that were 1.5" to 2" long. The pair of Convicts kept the Piranha way up in one corner of the aquarium. If the Piranha moved down even a couple of inches, the Convicts would immediately swim up and nip the Piranha, until it returned to the corner. The small Convict Cichlids had trained the Piranha to say in the corner.

I mean I understand that they are stowaways but shouldn't there be 3 or more in a tank?

yeah the recommend 4 to a shoal minimum, but some people keep them solo, or in trios. I've read that before. Sounds like a sissified RBP to me. I wish I could keep a breeding pair with my piranha. He kills every convict that goes in the tank.

you can also keep one solo, but if the species is pygo. then it would be better to keep them in shoal.
as long as someone at that aquarium miss few feedings, those convicts will be gone.

that could actually happen juvenile rbps or lets say most p's doent really kill for food at their young age unless the fish was really small enough for them to eat they would usually nip fins which is hi in protein


plus cichlids become aggresive earlier


had that experience had 2 tilapias with my p's when i got em and they were bullying 6 rbp's

Hi.

Onece long ago I was keeping a 9" RBP along with a 10" gobio. The gobio apparently "mastered" the tank and bullied the skittish P' everytime he wanted.

Some day when I was out for holydays I recieved a phone call from my bro and told me: "Geez man I had to put that gobio out of the tank the P' was about tho shred him apart"!!!!.

What happened if the P' was so skittish always in a tank corner and the gobio was the "master"?.... same thing with that convicts bothering that RBP, sooner or later the P' can decide it's time to fight and he'd take no prisoners....
