Just sharing...

So i have a "Fry" tank on my desk. Its a 10g with 4 P. elongatus likoma, and around 8 yellow labs. They range in age, none more than a few months. The biggest being around 2".

Anyways...just noticed one of the smaller (1.5") p. elongatus not coming up to eat. Upon further inspection it is definitely shuffling something in its mouth. Ugh...they are all 'siblings' and i really doubt the labs would hybridize with them?

Fry in the fry tank, yikes.

if i were u i would get rid of the young as they would be deformed most probably and decrease resale value

Considered it...but there are probably just a few eggs. On top of that stripping fish that small is a pain, stressful, and this tank is filled to the brim with lace rock.

Don't plan on selling...

Breeding siblings is how you line breed fish. You cull the deformed ones and keep the good ones to make the strain better. A small African is not unusal to find holding at that size.

At smaller sizes like that, it is not uncommon to see them "holding" pebbles or pieces of food. My smaller saulosi have done that since I can remember.

Its only been 4 or 5 days, but the buccal cavity on this fish is swelling and the behavor is consistent. Only time will tell...
