I have to give a shout out to you Pbass keepers and give mad props to those of you having any success.

I am somewhat a newbie to fishkeeping (< 2 years) and have tried around a dozen times to keep pbass. I don't think that I have gotten one to three inches yet or to live for over one month! These fish have got to be the most susseptible to parasitic infection that I could imagine.

I know that I jumpped into the hobby too fast, but I have read that pbass were NOT fish that required expert level care. It sucks that I can't keep an easy care pbass to save my life, yet have had little issue in keeping other species that were considered "difficult" like Bowfin and Discus.

Is this super strange, or is it not as uncommon for pbass fry to parish as some might have one believe?

Sorry to hear about your string of bad luck bro...but yeah they are pretty sensitive when smaller (under 6" to 7"). I spent at least two years researching Cichla before even attempting to keep them....and still managed to f ' up along the way. But there are alot of very knowledgable people here willing to help, as long as your willing to listen! I've learned alot from the guys on this forum over the last 3 yrs, and still am in no way even close to knowing what some of these guys know. One thing people always can't seem to grasp is how important it is to keep the babies at higher temps. Good luck, and don't give up!

Are u gonna try to keep them again? Do yourself a favor and let us know about your setup. If done correctly pbass are pretty easy to keep IMO Even juvies

Don't feel bad even I have my fair share of losses. I have got a small grave yard in the bottom of my freezer. And yes Cichla aren't as easy to keep as most think. I have four years under my belt and I still have losses with Cichla more then any other sp I keep. It's all apart of keeping them and owning them.

Ive raised several from fry to adult, and I still F up. Losing fish comes with the territory in this game. Surprisingly the more common species are typically very easy to keep, once you figure out all the ins and outs.

I'm also new to raising pbass and so far I consider myself very lucky. I started with 5 2in orinos nearly a month and a half ago and lost two withing the first 2 weeks, but the other three are doing great and growing fast.

i caught my baby pbass at less than an inch and i was only 11 at the time... they lasted like a year... that was the beggining of monster fish keepin 4 me:) i think i did pretty good 4 my first time... now i continue monster fish keepin with a 6" largemouth:headbang2

As stated by Callen...most dont pay attention to the details at a young age. Cichla must be kept at 86-90 when juvies. At lower temps they are highly suseptable to ich at lower temps. Keep them temps up/
