So Cal
He's got a 100g tank, standard 72x19x20 and I showed him a video of a Dovii, now he "needs" one haha.

Well, he knows that this wont house one for life, but I've read they are slow growers once they hit 12-13" and I think it could be happy in this tank for some time, and he will eventually upgrade (But not for awhile)

Any thoughts ? As long as he upgrades, or gets rid of it once it gets cramped I think it'll be alright.

Either that or I showed him the Red Tail Barracuda and other fish like that.

My dovii are still in a 125.they grew about 10 inches this year now the male is about 11 1/2 and has slowed down considerablly. Im thinking i can get another year before moving up.So if he gets them around 1 to 2 inches he should be able to house them for almost 2 yrs.

Odd measurements. But it would work for one for a while. It will take forever though and be boring growing a baby fish in a 100. Buy a 6 or 7" and that would be dope right away.

Thats the plan.

Thats an old school "Standard" 100 gallon... I don't see many 100g tanks that have a 6 foot long foot print anymore. This tank is from the lat 80's haha.

My made up rule is that a fish needs a tank atleast as wide as the fish is long and BARE MINIMUM three times as long as the fish. So, with that size tank I'd go with a 19 inch fish at the most, and dovii are rumored to get a little bit bigger than that. It'll probably be fine for a couple years.

He'd be picking up about a 6-8" fish to start with. I've seen them hit 18" in aquariums without too much trouble, but I think it would be happy in there for a few years.

IMO you would have to get it a bigger tank onces it hits 18", or less. Otherwise, its just gonna be hitting the glass. Do you want it as a glass banger?

I got one for sale in Los Angeles. I don't know what part of so cal you are located in but it's about 3 inches and a mean little F***er. PM if interested.
