Hello, Im looking for some advice as its unclear what caused the first of my two fantail goldfish to die only two weeks after I purchased them. Just to clear up, my water levels are fine and my tank is 180 litres (47 gallons?).
As one of the fish still is happy and eating well the other one got skinny, lost appetite and had cramped fins. I thought it was not very serious but just when i returned from the fishstore having purchased 3 more fish I noticed the condition had worsened alot. The fish was lying on the gravel and his body was sunken in, eyes aswell, he was totally lethargic and he had small spasms from time to time. It looked horrible and I had to kill him. Some time before that I noticed white stringy poop but I figured I would wait it out (obviously did not work very well).
I released the other fish in the tank and they all seem healthy including the first surviving one, except for the fact that they have wierd pooping habbits. One of them seems constipated with small bubbles in poop, one of them, the surviver, doesnt seem to poop at all (if that is even possible), and two of the others I have temporarily observed clear poop. This is stressing me out.
Im feeding them peas now as goldfish easily tend to get constipated, I have also added salt to water to help the fish batter infections. I first suspected some sort of internal bacterial infection that came from the fish vendor. I was recommended to add Melafix to the water and I am now trying that, but what if this could be some internal parasite? (one of the fish stopped with the clear poop after one day on salt only but this could be temporarily?).
Please help me diagnose the fish so I can treat them correctly. So far they are all eating well and display vigorous behaviour. Should I just wait it out again?
