I've never tried using manzanita in a tank before but, i think it looks really nice. My sister just recently picked up a bunch of branches to use for center pieces at weddings at her flower shop so, i grabbed a few for myself.

What are the downsides (if any) of putting uncured branches in an aquarium? i know they should be kept in water to be waterlogged and to rid chemicals that have been possibly sprayed on the branches but, is there anything in the bark itself that will cause fish to die?

is manzanita known to leak a lot of tannins?

just a little curious to know if it's absolutely mandatory to cure them before usage.

I would cure them if you don't know if there was any chemicals used to treat them. They do leach out quite a bit of tannins but I like the look. If it's not coated with anything then it's perfectly safe for your aquarium as is.
