I have a 12 gallon Nano cube and I've had the tank for only 1 week now with water and plants in it. I'm adding nutrients as needed for the plants and last night noticed some reen algae in the substrate and a little on the glass. What should i do to treat this as I know their isn't enough bacteria in the tank yet to fight this stuff off? Should i not put the light on as long or is there an additive to treat with? please advise!

Here is the short answer: Less lights, more co2 or excel, more plants, lots of water changes.

yeah basically it comes down to less light and more co2. in my tank i do 50% water changes to reset the dosing levels FWIW

How can you do less light with a nano cube? I'm only a week into the fresh water setup with only 2 plants in there. Am i better just taking this salt water? I don't want to have to put in new lights. What do you think?

i would say jus clean it out before it grows bigger and faster...
i dont no much about salt water but i seen pink stuff growin like alge that im sure gets just as annoying

what are you doing for co2?

Less light doesn't mean you have to get a smaller light fixture. You just don't have it on for as long. Don't give up on planted tanks yet. It takes a little while to get it all balanced and figured out. But it will be beautiful once it is. I think they are better than reef tanks.

The lighting is two 24-watt 50/50 compact fluorescent lamps. I'm just not sure if these lights will work for freshwater plants. Will they?
