my 8" xingu I showed me why he's a beast this week. I had 3 hujeta gars all around 6" long. They were very healthy and everybody in the tank seemed to get along. All of a sudden, I'm down one hujeta... I look on the floor, I look everywhere. nowhere to be found. I go away for a couple days and when i come back, I dont check my tank. I wake up the next morning and there is a tail sticking out of my pike's mouth. (camera batteries were dead). I had always heard that the pikes can take down anything, but all of the tanks inhabitants got along so well, or so I thought. Anything even close to being considered lunch for the pike was taken out, so no more casualties should be expected... we hope.

Unfortunately, almost all pikes have an elastic stomach...which makes it very very easy for them to eat things that most of us wouldn't even think they would be able to. As long as they can get it past their mouth, they can eat it. Gars being torpedo shaped, and smaller than the pike, does present them as a relatively tasty temptation. Thats a rather large meal though, even I am a little surprised. Anywho, best of luck with that, hope you don't have any more loses!!
