Hallo everyone,

i am Brand New and very excited to be Part oft MFK. I have Usedom this Website for a Wheel now and finally registered. I have a Problem that i cant Figure out.

i have an undergravel filtration in my 100g. Ansässig Pump Tore up i put a new Motor on, turned it on without anything in it, because i was Redoing the entire setup. It worked great i mean water gushing out, simple beautiful :).
then i started with the setup and noticed the more substrate i added the lless waterflow :irked: so i took everything apart, took the motor apart to insure nothing was in it - it was clean and in perfect working order however, the problem persisted, even fter i flushed all the pipes, checked the canisters etc.
does anyone have any idea?
the longer i leave it running the less water comes out.
i cant come up with anything. i was really hoping for some input on how to fix it.

i look forward to input, thank you

Haven't used an ug since 1989 so this is just a guess. A ug pulls water through the substrate so more subtrate the more resistance and the less flow.

Hello; I have a UGF in operation currently for about three years and have used them since the 1960's. Please clear this up for me.

"It worked great i mean water gushing out" Does your UGF run on air or some other type pump? Also what type substrate are you using?

In my experience fine substrate like sand can pack a bit and this could lead to reduced flow. I like to use a gravel substrate somewhat smaller than a garden pea but larger than say rice. Say at least bb sized and a bit larger.

Since you are redoing the setup, you might consider placing a layer of the blue and white filter material directly on top of the filter plate and then the substrate on top of that. I read about this on this forum and do plan to try it sometime. I got enough to do a 30 gallon recently and will try it.

Good luck

funny story, i have tried putting something over the intake. it started slowing down without substrate being near the intake, this is y i am so very confused. i have an inch of substrate tops.
the flow when i first turn it on will be very strong, then it will quickly taper off, then all but die, thats without substrate near the intake.
needless to say i am confused.
its a motor that pulls the water in, then there is an overflow, next to intake. the pump is a pentair aquatics quiet one pump 5000.

Is the pump mounted on the uplift tube?

What are you using for substrate on the undergravel filter plate?

Could you show some picks. It is really hard to understand your problem. You mentioned a cannister. Are you also using a canister filter? Is your pump connected to the to of the raiser tubes?
Also said you only have an inch of gravel on the bottom. If that is the case your ugk will no work correctly.

Is your pump set up like this?
I know is a bad pic but you can see the powerhead. Some times gravel will get such sucked up the tube an slow down the flow rate.
