Underwater camera under $300

I was going to get an underwater camera early this summer to take on my trip to SA and the Galapagos, but my regular digital camera just broke (and I need it for a big project for one of my classes), so I'm getting it now. Can anyone recommend a good one (6+mp, I've seen some 10mp in my price range, but not sure how good they are) for $300 or less?

Well, after checking out some underwater cameras, I've decided to stick with a normal digital camera and wait until summer to get a decent underwater camera. I'm getting a Canon Powershot Pro Series for now, but any advice about underwater cameras is still welcome as I'm probably getting one in a few months

I would look at housings before you buy your camera. Make sure a quality housing is available for the camera you get. Stay away from Ikelite housings, they're bulky and not that well-made.

Olympus makes a decent underwater camera for around $300.
