i must say, nice shots ! is it an underwater camera ? ;)
Thanks! Not my best shots but they are ok.
I usually like to take the photos with the lights on and the flash off but I haven't had the lights on in awhile, so I didn't want to have to wait an hour before taking the photos waiting for the the fish to adjust.
Yes it's an underwater camera, It's the 6000 http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_se...on=stylustough

It's a Brachyplatystoma juruense(thanks I <3fish;)) and I have another photo thread dedicated to him here if you want to check it out.

The bichirs are a great fish, I like them for their jurassic look and the fact that they're an ancient fish species.
I used to have 16 of them but I gave them all up cause they were getting too big, I was focusing more on my datnoids, and I re-leased my apartment, so an upgrade had to be put off. I ended up getting my albinos back along with a smaller ornate and endlicheri, that should do it for me now but I may get another delhezi though, or perhaps not.
Good points are that they're pretty laid back(I don't like aggressiveness), are pretty easy to feed and live for anywhere from 15-30 years given a good home and diet. They're also one of the hardier species when it comes to diseases and parasites, I haven't had one die on me or become ill.
Bad points aren't many but with my old pairs of endlicheris and ornates it had to be with eating tankmates, even the ones you would think were big enough.
Here's a photo of one of my old endlicheri after he ate an oscar:D

Yes they are! I'd go with a larger lower jawed species like:
P. endlicheri endlicheri - 32", possibly more
P. endlicheri congicus - 39"
P. Bichir lapradei - 24"
P. bichir bichir - 30+ ''
P. ansorgii - 28-30+''

P. ornatipinnis - 27" would also be good which is a upper jaw species(and one of my favorites due to their coloration).

The sizes listed are potential sizes, they won't necessarily reach that.

cool thanks for the tips...now i gotta research all those names u gave me to see what they look like in real life! my favourites are the yellowish ones with the flowery dark patterns over their whole bodies...they look great! easy thing is that rays and bichirs can all eat massivores or dead food fromt he market so its pretty simple feeding them...

You're welcome!
The stickies in the polypterus forum can help you out too.

I get them in packs at a local dicount store here in the freezer section. they are already filleted. I just take them out from the freezer the day prior to feeding and put them in the fridge. I just dice them in manageable cubes.
