I sold some fish today after feeding them their usual rations at 8pm last night. Part of their feeding was some Hikari Cichlid Gold, the red pellets in the red package. There aren't any cichlids in the tank anymore, but I'm finishing off the last of the bag. They also got the hikari protein sticks with the arowana on the bag.
Anyway, 13-14 hours later, while in transit, two separate fish spit up whole food bits in their bags/buckets. Two silver shark cats managed an hour car ride like this without issue, but a datnoid sadly died during a shorter car ride in a bucket.
I've never seen anything like this before. It's as if they didn't digest the food at all.
Is that common? Do you think it's just because of that type of food?
In any event, beware - feeding the fish a big meal, even 12+ hours before a move, can be an issue. I always knew not to feed before a long move because they'd poop in the bag, but never thought they'd spit up 14 hour old food whole. Just another thing to keep in mind in the future.
