Unexpected cool fish

Has anyone else ever acquired a fish that you never intended to keep long term and ended up being surprised by how cool that fish was?

Orandas were my unexpected cool fish. I had always overlooked those fancy feeders until my wife had to have one. I was surprised by how personable they are. That was 16 years ago and now we seem to always have one somewhere in the house.

ditto on the goldfish. Makes up 50 per cent of my collection now.

Parrot fish cichlids for me. Never thought they were cool. Infact when I began this hobby I thought they were fancy goldfish. I ended up buying two and one lived for 7 years, it just died 2 weeks ago. I still have the other one though.

I found a little guy in a bag of feeders that looked strange, turned out to be an American Flag fish. Neat little guy with a ton of attitude.
