So, ive been keeping koi for 6 years and ive kept a small saltwater aquarium before successfully and i now own a 72 gallon planted bowfront freshwater community aquarium and to 2 bristlenose plecos and 2 african dwarf frogs and some zebra nerites (i had 13 white cloud minnows for cycling previously and were in there until yesterday with all the other animals) and a friend of mine gave me 2 german blue rams and said they were fairly easy to care for and never having done much research on them and only knowing theyd be fine in a community tank with my conditions. I came home and doing more research alot of sites say theyre difficult to keep. All my nitrate, nitrite and ammonia levels are as close to zero as it gets and my ph is 7.3 (in my city the tap water ph is 7.5 and thats what they were bred and have grown up in). They also have a large piece of driftwood to hide in. They also ate 3 hours after they got home and seem super comfortable and are foraging around comfortably. Im also going to buy a small amount of peat to put in the filter tomorrow to make sure to keep the water softness in control. I was just wondering if there was anything i should be looking out for or if you have any tips for me.

Rams seem to do better in warmer water - around 84. I think you're pH of 7.3 is fine and I wouldn't mess around with it. Make sure to keep your nitrates low too - less than 10.

^ I agree with pretty much all of that. Rams are sensitive to water quality and low temps. Do a weekly water change to keep the nitrates under 10ppm and make sure they're in water that's no lower than 80F, but preferably 84F. If you keep the parameters stable they shouldn't be that sensitive.

Also remember that M. ramirezi are short-lived, lasting a couple years or so.
