So,
I turned my quarantine tank into a normal tank, and don't want to risk it's inhabitants. I'd like to buy another goldfish for my 100 gallon but want to quarantine him. They are 1-3", depending on which one I end up with.

I have a 100 gallon not filtered not cycled tote that I use to prepare water for water changes. Could I just fill that and leave him in there for two weeks?

The reason I think it'd be ok is all his waste will go to ammonia, but with a single 2" fish in a 100 gallon tank being lightly fed for two weeks I'm not seeing the concentrations getting high at all.

Why not just set up a 10-20 gallon with a sponge filter, you could take some BB from your established tank or run the sponge in the established tank to seed it.

or you could just throw some media from one of your other filters into spare filter. or make a filter with some of the media and an empty soda bottle, or some pvc, or flexible tubing, or an empty butter tub and an air stone. or toss in a rock or some gravel from another tank.
all in all, it would probably be ok, but why not make sure?
