My biggest Senegal does not seem to be happy. She hides all the time. Doesn't eat as much as the other two if the lights are on, and runs whenever I approach the tank, whereas the other two swim up to me and even like to be petted.

I'm thinking maybe it's my tank setup as she is healthy and swims around at night when they lights are out and during day if lights are also off and eats more then.

I have plenty of hiding spots, some floating plants and plenty of room as they are all around 5 inches and in a 55 G tank.

But wondering what I can do to make her happier. Or if this is just her personality..?

honestly i wouldn't worry if she's eating and healthy...
even though several species are quite diurnal, bichir as a group by nature is still nocturnal.

personality she just more comfortable uder low light conditions you need to remember
all living creatures have their individual quirks and when describing a species behavior we talk in generalities.-Anne

its just an eccentric poly just like my eccentric jar

if youve got two bichirs that will let you pet them you really cant ask for much more than that.

its just its personality.
