Today I went to my local pond they call a lake, trout lake vancouver BC
and near some half submerged rocks I saw a school of fish, so I wanted to see what it was, when I got close to the shore this huge one came out, and seem to drive the schooling fish into a den under a rock. I assume that was the male father of the schooling fish cause it was colourful *cough* sort of, it was black / dark pigmented, and it had a yellowish tail, and after that, I just stood there, not moving, watching the fish. Then the male big daddy swam out, and under another rock, he started ramming this smaller fish, and i dont know why but he seems to be reflecting light towards me, he flashes this bright yellow area wich I guess to be the belly of the fish.
I relly want to knowwhat type of fish this is and if i can, collect a few for my aquarium, Thanks

-Edit : oh and I will upload some images after i've capture some of them, I've set a trap nearby and i wanna go back in around 4 days, dont worry they wony die there, i've made the bait so it is hard to eat all at once, and its a mesh cage so the water flows through it, plus i can't go to the lake because of school exams and tests.

trout lake has no trout. lol

You're probably right! my trap caught a few pumpkin seeds! but they where missing the yellow stripes on the tail, so that makes me think otherwise, but nice catch, and they were too small for my tank so i let them go, (OH CRAP I FORGOTTEN THE CAMERA THAT DAY)

A couple of things:
a) As far as I know it is illegal to keep or transport ANY wild fish in BC.
b) pumpkinseeds or any pan-fish should not be present in any waters in or around Vancouver. They are in Osoyoose lake along with crappy & bullheads & bass, and I've seen black bullhead & smallmouth as far north as the Penticton river-channel (below Okanagan lake's dam). They shouldn't be anywhere else and if they are they've (probably) been illegally introduced and need to be reported immediately!!
c) when you catch one/them, take a (good) photo and throw them back or kill'em. Post the photo here to ID them and ring Fisheries.
Sorry to be the buzz-kill.....

Thanks for telling me this, i've been to the lake a couple of times and have seen people fish out sunfish, catfish and carp out of the body of water, there were also guppies once and this year they didn't re-appear so i belive someone released them there last year and they didn't make it past winter, once i have caught a sizable fish i would contact the wildlife officials
