I'm in the process of mapping out a 36x18x16 (about 45G) cage dedicated for an interesting snake, something that you don't see every day.

A few species that I have in my mind

- Savu Python
- Viper Boa
- Madagascar Blonde Hognose

The Savu and the Viper are pretty much the only pythons/boas that I would consider. I would also rather shy away from king or milk snakes, so I am pondering more options for a colubrid (rear fanged preferred) of some sort that will be fine in the cage long-term.

What do you guys think?

Based off of what you're interested in, I'd say the Savu python would be your best bet since it seems more docile than the viper boa and overall more interesting than the madagascar blonde.

The Savu would be the most personable snake out of the 3 I'm guessing, and while they are definitely cool snakes in their own rights I'm pretty hesitant to follow through since he (I'd be keeping a male in there) would be overshadowed by my chondro... as far as pythons go.

The Viper Boa route still seems interesting, because I would be emulating a venomous snake handling experience without the venom, with a hook or two.

I am hearing that the blonde hognose are burrowers so I may not see much of them unless I dig them out. I think I'm ultimately after a diurnal colubrid who will compliment the otherwise stationary chondro with a lot of activity.
