I was looking into finally getting my 240g tank up and running and I ran into an issue with predrilled holes. I think I am leaning toward sealing those and drilling new holes, but i would also need to buy new bulkheads. I found a few websites selling uniseals and these almost seem easier to me to use rather then a bulkhead because i won't need to worry about threading the holes.

Has anyone used these? How to they work? More importantly, how do they work on a large tank?

I love uniseals! I've never used them on a tank, only sump and settling chamber.

You don't have to thread the holes for bulkheads, you can make the holes just big enough for the bulkheads to drop in.

Is there a concern the uniseal wouldn't be strong enough to hold up to the pressure of anything larger then a sump?

Personally I wouldn't be comfortable if the seal was on the bottom of the tank. That's not based on any fact just my fears, it'd probably be ok, they fit tight once the pvc is installed. On the side I go for it, but that's me.

i just watched a video about uniseals. what scares me is it only works on pressure. get bulheads.

Do you have a link? I don't know what that means :ROFL:if you mean pressure of the pvc against the seal and the seal against the tank I understand. As long as you use a hole saw and drill the proper size hole they seal great, damn near impossilbe to remove the pipe once in place. But like I said, on the bottom of the tank I'd be afraid the water pressure would push it out, proabably wouldn't happen; but still, I'd do bulkheads on the bottom of a tank but I wouldn't hesitate to use uniseal on the side.

Why would you have you thread holes for bulkheads? Most I have seen just drop into a hole that is a little bigger then the pass through part of the fitting.

well, i bought the tank used and it was already drilled for me. These holes only allow for .5 inch pipe and they are placed in strange areas of the tank.

The holes are threaded so i assumed that was the norm when using bulkheads....
