Morning all,

I have a male Texes (probably carpintis or xbreed) that over the last few weeks has a lump growing on his fin.

It is quite protruding now, doesn't seem to cause him any issue or discomfort that i an tell but if it keeps growing at the rate its grown it is going to be a big problem.

It started out a a small red spec, there was a couple of them, the others disappeared but this one has grown. I would estimate its about 2-3mm round at the moment

So i am after advice,

1- Can i treat it ? If so with what

2- What is it ?

3- If I cant treat it is there anything i can do to remove it ?

It an established tank 150 gal approx with plenty of tank mates with no other signs of anything like this, water parameters are fine and a 50% weekly WC resheme

Sorry, this is the best pic i could get

Cheers

These kind of granuloma's are common in fish, but hard to diagnose without a lab test. Could be anything from a simple cyst to viral or bacterial infection, for bacteria you'd need a lab test to determine whether its gram negative or gram positive to ascertain what kind of antibiotic would be effective, or its if viral, it is basically non treatable because only the fishes own immune system must fight it off ( no effective treatments for virus) except lots of water changes, and pristine conditions.
I tried to get closer view, maybe someone else is a better diagnostician.

Hard to say as Duanes has already mentioned. A culture or skin scraping can help to direct what to do. I would suggest to move to a qt tank and try a little triple sulfa. Redenned area and now this growth could suggest bacterial cause. The abx should cover a lot of skin bugs and in a qt tank then won’t mess with ur beneficial bacteria.

The growth looks like Lymphocystis to me. An ugly, non lethal, viral growth.
No cure.

My first impression was also Lymphocystus, but could not be sure.
The Lymph virus is ubiquitous (like a common cold in humans), and as stated above, any over the counter treatment is basically masterbation.
I had a shipment of fish arrive, and I believe the stress of shipping brought it on a few days later.
After a week of substantial daily water changes, it was gone.
