My 40gal box tank is off balance to where the waterline comes to the top on one side and is about half and inch below the top.

do you guys think this could cause a problem?

My 55g has been like that for months and no problem yet. It was my first big(for me at least lol) tank so I rushed to set it up and fill it with water. If I fill it up until it's about to spill one one side, you cant see the water line on the other side :D

My 55 is a 1/4 inch off side to side it drive me absolutely crazy. My 90 though is even front back side to side and corner to corner I was really anal when I set it up.

With a 40 gallon, it really isn't anything to worry about, but with really big tanks, it can cause catastrophic failures

im sorry to inform you. your tank is going to have nuclear combustion and it is going to blow up everything in a 20 mile radius. i would suggest shipping your fish and gf to me here in north carolina

i'll overnight them

id just leave it, but if it bothers you (it would annoy the crap out of me) id drain it down and shim underneath it. then again, im anal retentive. lol
