Hey, I wonder if anyone else has had this problem. Not sure if it's the kit itself or the pH just being a lot more variable than I'd imagine, but let's see... a few days ago I tested my tap water at pH about 7.6 (which is the top of the scale). I used pH Down to get a quarantine tank to about 6.2 - 6.4 four days ago, and since then I've added about 20% tap water, and now it's showing 7.6, which seems unlikely.

Yesterday, my 205 gallon/800 litre tank was showing pH around 7 - 7.2, now it's 7.6 as well, and the only change has been to add one gallon of peat-infused water which tested at about 6 (or the bottom of the scale).

Today, my tap water (usually 7.6) is showing about 6.8. I've also noticed that I get completely different readings depending on the temperature of water I'm testing.

So does this seem likely, or is something off about the test kit? If the latter, does anyone have any other brands to recommend? Nutrafin?

Thanks in advance.

The tank that tested at 7.6 (the highest on the chart) yesterday tested at 6.0 (the lowest on the chart) today using the API test kit. Bought a Nutrafin pH test kit and it gave me a 6.6, which seems very plausible considering I started at about 6.2 and gradually added alkaline tap water.
