Will an unstable dats given the right water condition, hiding places become stable eventually ?

I have 6 baby IT's, they're currently in a small 20 gallon before I am transferring them to a 40 gallon that is currently occupied by another fish that I am moving to my 240. They're eating variety of meals I provide for them, but they're still shy since I have only have them for a week and a half.

I don't expect a miracle right away, but I'd like to see all of them become stable in the future....some still showing dark coloring, although, I peeked through last night when the light was off, one was showing yellow and dark bands.

I have also heard subrate color will also makes a difference ? is this true ? lighter color versus darker gravel ?

They may color up, but some will never be completely stable.

I agree. I have 4" indo that was really dark when I got 2 months ago and its still dark but not as dark as I had it before. All my other dats are slowly becoming fully stable except for that one.

i kept all mine that were unstable in perfect water with good food not really any hides in there and a light on the timer and all stabled out

the key is no hideing places if you have drift wood the tiger will blend into it

I've found that putting in a bigger fish has helped my 2" to be more stable than ever. What I had done was put in 2 4" nicaraguensis and he immediately stabled out. He tried to show agression by rushing them but the nics didn't budge. I think that dats might need some other bigger fish to try and push around to help them be more stable.
