My german rams laid eggs and the male was fanning them 24/7. I woke up today and their gone. I checked to see if they had moved the wrigglers but i dont think it was fertilized properly. Their very small, 3/4". I just saw 2 of my 5 total discus hiding in the back corner and they are circling each other, colors are extremely vibrant. That makes this 2 spawns in 1 week! WOOT! :). Also, I 'think' 1 of my discus just spawned and ate all of the eggs. Shes swimming next to a vertically laid piece of driftwood and she seems to be frantically nipping it over and over. whats say you?
EDIT: i should mention for the rams, last night right before i went to bed when i was feeding my fish. The male left his post for about 5 minutes and i saw a discus come over to the site and eat about 15 eggs. He was chased away within seconds. But their were still 50+ eggs left. it had been roughly 24 hours since they laid the eggs when the discus started eating them. By 36 hours they were all gone.

all of this is normal. I've had numerous spawns eaten because I had no extra tank to move the pair to for non-community nurture.
I even watched as one young male literally ate the eggs as the female was dropping them. talk about aggravating! That pair spawned many times, but the female ended up switching males.
even if you're losing them now, the pair learns from practicing. once they start, they will repeatedly spawn.
females 'nip' their egg-laying object like that, they seem to obsess on cleaning the surface.

Congrats on the progress, you are doing something right! Just enjoy & learn right along with your fish ;-)
