So I was looking at my tank today and realized that one of my green terrors was missing... so after looking for a good 5 minutes I started to get concerned that maybe it jumped out of the tank when I was gone for the weekend... well as it turned out the GT was injured enough by my other GT that it was unable to get away from the intake of the filter and got sucked in. My emperor 400 was too strong and she was lost to the motor inside

which leads me to the question of what was the most unusual way you have lost a fish?

my lil bros tank is the mystery tank of the house weve lost two albino sharks and a baby silver aro we looked everywhere and to this day have never found them :rip

I've had more than one small fish get sucked up the filter intake...thought they were too big to fit, and they'd be strong enough swimmers to not get pulled in by the suction...wrong. Also, ages ago had a growout tank with some baby Kenyi in it...it was a half-assed quick put-together setup, so the tank wasn't completely covered. One day I noticed one missing, but never found it. MONTHS later, moved the tank from where it was, and was dusting around where it had been...and found a very gross, dried up and shriveled baby kenyi..took me a minute to even figure out what the hell it was.

My guess is that the green terror ( unless it was really tiny ) was already sick to begin with. It was on its deathbed when it got sucked into the filter. A strong healthy fish should not get sucked into a HOB filter.

Ive had 8-9 inch fish disappear without a trace . I would then find out it was eaten by a bigger fish. One time the only clue left was 2 scales at the bottom of the tank.

well I looked at my other GT and saw battle marks around its mouth so from that I can only assume that it was an attack that did in the smaller GT

Stress from aggression did that GT in. :(

I've had a few, mainly eels and spiney eels go for walks and show up dead in other rooms, under the couch, etc. I was called next door once to fetch a still living american eel from their pool, why the chlorine didn't kill it I will never figure out. I have also had weather and coolie loaches disappear then turn up later as they were living in the undergravel filter.
