Ok so its been a couple of months since I did an update so thought I'd put together a quick video update. Not that much changed really, although the smaller jag is definitely not looking too good. The other Parachromis are attacking a lot, and he has not had that great a chance to recover. Shame; you won't see him in this video because he'll be hiding out somewhere. The only other fish getting badly pick on is the Jewel. He used to be the boss, but now fully grown at only 4 inch, he's easily the smallest and cant compete with he other bruisers.
The RTM pair are yet to breed, most likely due to the fact of the other pair; although they have grown. Which brings me on to my next topic...the other pair! Yes you've guessed it the fry are wolf-jag, currently housed in a 40 Gal beneath the main aquarium, running off the overflow from the main tank. The eggs were laid 2 days before I was going away for 2 weeks, so I did not get to see them hatch, and lost a few in that time. I took the eggs from the parents and placed the egg-ridden rock in a very tiny Nursery tank (12x4x12") also connect by overflow to the main tank; which was ok for a few weeks that I was away. There was also a leak on the overflow outlet of this nursery tank, so the pump feeding the small tank had to be switched off for 14 hours, and with no heater, and such a small volume of water, I lost a lot of the fry.
A few days ago I went to my local glass supplier and got a replacement pane for the smashed 40 Gal I had outside; repaired that and purchased a Tunze 1074/2 overflow box so I wouldn't have to drill the display tank. I have to say I am very impressed with this unit! The 40 Gal finished curing yesterday and the fry were transferred after it was leak tested. The nursery tank is currently disconnected, although only needs a pump switching on and will be ready for the next batch of eggs (hopefully from the Mota's).
I put this video together last night using a few clips from yesterday and before I went away.
