That is a really nice snake. Good job on trying to include more hides. You are missing the point though. Small, tight, secure hides and maybe a large one. This is the main thing. You don't really need to bother much with plants IF you provide loads of small (very small) and a few big hides. Though it's still a good idea too.

:iagree:

Think of it this way. Your snake is a defenseless snack waiting to be eaten. You are a giant jaguar. Or eagle, caiman, dog, whatever. You know where it lives. Would you want to be a mouse in an open space with a lion? If you find a wild snake in its hiding place, you better believe its impossible to get it out. The point of a hide is to be SAFE. Its basically a bomb shelter. Youre the bomb. (Not like that lol! Well, not yet anyway)

Substrate is another way of hiding. Its all a tool to survive. Of course a snake wont come across a giant pile of aspen or whatever in the Costa Rican jungle, but it WILL find something with similar uses. In this case, hiding. Each of the things in your animals cage is a TOOL for it to use to be happy, healthy, safe, and hopefully, eventually, breeding. Sure, newspaper doesnt hurt (although some people will say otherwise), but it sure as heck doesnt help. An extra 5 seconds once a week for poop cleaning shouldnt be something that would compromise the animals well-being.

Yeah my boa mostly hides in his aspen, with his head poking out ready to get me from all angles if I try pick him up :grinno:
