Update:Convict Fry-22 days old

Convict fry are now 22 days old...On day 20, I caught the female eating the fry .....Luckily I had a 30g cycling....Out of an estimated 150 that hatched, my pair successfuly raised 80 fry...Pretty good huh...I mean I could of siphoned the whole spawn right after hatching, but since this is a new pair, I thought I would see how far the pair will tolerate the fry....20 are pinkies...Actively eating frozen bbs...Most have learned what my hand means, FOOD.....Temp is at 83-85degrees....This may seem high, but I'm guessing the high temp will increase metabolism=growth rate...

Sounds good! Ive never seperated fry from their parents until the parents start getting tired of them. I never get very many fry though either lol

congrats man. sound like a solid batch. your thinking with the elevated temp is correct.

gratss my RD pair just had some fry 2 days old and still alot in there hope alot of em will survivee

hotter temps = high growth rates, but to high and they will grow to fast and not form properly..

i also think that higher temps during the hatching/pregnancy can vary the ratio of male to female..i believe the hotter = more females but not 100% sure.

Good point....Maybe like alligators/crocs,huh.....I may try a controlled experiment.....2 same sized pairs....Each pair seperated in 2 identical tanks...Only difference is the temperature, one tank set at 78degrees and one tank set at 85degrees....Collect results from 2, maybe 3 spawns.....Hmmmmmmm..........
