Hello all - I know it's been awhile but I've been a busy girl recently. I have 2 bad news for you, and 1 good news.
People like good news first... so here it is. In February, I'm going to be a first time Mommy
We've been very busy getting ready for the baby - and that leads to the bad news.
The bichirs, most of them at least, have to go. We live in an apartment, and the "fish room" will now have to be the nursery, and the only logical spot for a pack-n-play or cradle in our bedroom is home to another 55gallon. Our collection has begun to dwindle, and we've now said goodbye to the pair of male senegals we've owned for years (that started the craze), the buettekoferi, a lapradei, the retropinnis, both delhezi, both polli, our young jag, and other miscellaneous fish, with more on the list of "to go"s. Now we're getting down to our favorites, and it's starting to get a bit sad.
Our other bad news - last month we lost our Deuce, the monster 17'' congicus. We have no idea why he died... he was fine one day, and dead the next. He was a beautiful boy, and our tank will always be missing a certain something now - missing our collection centerpiece.
I do need advice on something. I have a Nigerian lapradei female, about 12'' long. Gradually over the course of the past two or three months, she's developed spinal issues. It started with the tip of her tail bending to the side, then moved up to her midback area where it is now. The entire back half of her body is twisted now and lays on the side of the tank. She still has movement in her tail, and uses it to swim around, but I don't know what brought it on. The only thing I can think of is that I have a channel cat in that tank, and maybe there's a chance that she took a spine from the cat in her back and it caused damage. But I think if that was the case, it wouldn't be something developed over such a long period of time. I'd show pictures of her, but the tank is having an algae bloom right now and I have it covered in blankets for the next few days.
