This is my Fahaka Puffer I have had for a few months. Hes really calm and not agsressive at all towards other fish, except when he is feeding. The other fish in the tank boss him around more then he does to them, but when he is eating they know to stay clear. Overall he is not the most exciting fish, he is rather lazy spending a lot of time burying in the coral and hiding in the rocks. He is in a 55 gallon w/an OB Peacock and some hybrid that survived in my old African tank. Dont worry, the hybrid(s) will not breed and if they do the brood will never reach another aquarist or pet store. Bare with the pictures, this is only my third time taking them.

Here he is when I first bought him:

And here he is now:

I think I am going to have to change the lighting to really get some decent pictures. Anyone have any ideas for taking better pictures? Camera is a Nikon Coolpix 4800 ED. Lighting right now is 2 marine glo's and 2 power glo's

Gorgeous looking puffer. But i know what you’re saying, puffers are either really exciting in character or really dull and slow. Nonetheless he has some nice colours/pattern :)

Bro you know those things get to 18" right? Fahakas are the meanest SOBs on the planet, once he gets to a little larger of a size he will bite those fish clear in half!

yeah... you'll want a 125G species tank for that guy.

Yeah I know how big they get, I did my research. And as far as aggression goes, he will be removed as soon as there are any signs of problems. For now he is a big baby and hopefully it stays that way. Ive actually seen people keeping full grown fahakas with their arowana's. As far as his color goes, he looked like complete crap when I first got him, so hopefully he will continue to color up as time goes by.

As a former Fahaka owner my advice is to keep him well fed. I had mine in with a mix of CA/SA cichlids that he completely ignored. Then one weekend I went away and came back to half of the cichlids missing and the other half dead with chunks taken out of them.

I doubt this will work since the "sign of problems" will be fish with large parts of their body missing...

As a puffer owner I will tell you now, if you care at all about those other fish evacuate them as soon as possible. Fahakas arn't aggressive like a cichlid, they are like serial killers, when they want to they will dispose of every fish in the tank.

I'd love to see some pics of a fully grown fahaka in with a aro. Wonder how long its lasted....

But anyway, i'd personally remove it, as it will almost definately be snacking on your other fish.

However, I love the first pic, classic. Nice looking puffer.

you have some really pretty fish there.. the puffer is awesome but i did not know how bad the innocent looking guy could be.:nilly: great tank set up..very pretty
