hey guys i posted a while back i was going to start a reef., well i did fantasic, best choice ive made in a long time so far 3x1x1 im using real sea water, 22kg of live rock, 1 ehiem canister, seio 1000 powerhead, t5ho lights, stock is finger coral, leather coral, hammer coral 2 clown fish, 1 coral beauty, 1 blue tang, 2golden mask gobies, 1 yellow tail damsel,

i have a few questions could you please explain to me how to keep my salinity levels correct. when i do water changes should i add ro water? or when should i had fresh water i dont understand?, please explain the basics thanks

what is the best way to keep a tank cool without a chiller? the australian summer is quickly approaching and im unsure of what overheating does the time period it happens in and how to prevent it?

and should i ditch the cannister and go for a skimmer? i would like a sump but a little to late for that or can you drill the tank with a low water level?

anything else would be great to know if you have any questions or would like to point somthing out to me very appricated

<< Tank is too small for any tang, in my opinion >>

<< When you do water changes, you do these with premade up salwater, made to the correct SG. If you always make it to the same SG when do create the saltwater, you'll gain consistancy there.

The only time you'll add fresh water to the tank is too "top-off" the tank, due evapouration. Basically, the water itself evapourates, but the salt content stays behind, effectivly raising the SG of the tank tank ( less water, more salt ). By topping off, your replacing this evaporated water to keep the SG at your personal specified level ( be it somewhere between 1.023 - 1.026 ) >>

<< Having fans blowing across the water surface is one way, or float frozen bottles of water in the tank..Slowly they will defrost, keeping the water cooler..when defrosted, put back in the freezer again >>

and should i ditch the cannister and go for a skimmer? i would like a sump but a little to late for that or can you drill the tank with a low water level?

<< Filters and Skimmers, in general terms, do different jobs. With your tank, you do have enough live rock to effectivly remove the cannister filter anyway, as the live rock will act as natural filtration. Adding a skimmer will aid you in maintaining better quality water. >>

Added some comments above, in red....HTH

Thank you very much, i am aware that the tank is far to small for any tang, he is the size of a 10cent coin i have a plan when i can no longer house him.

can you drill a tank with a low water level in it?
