just a word from the book or hind sight is 20-20
The RTC will grow at a rate of 1 inch a month consistant the TSN on the other hand in my experiance seens to grow slower and in 3 month spirts. in other words the rtc it smaller right now but in a few months they will be same size and in a year the tsn will be a play toy in size

Yes, i read your thread and a few others. we plan on getting a hybrid as well but we wouldnt be able to seperate them all if need be. these 2 i can. Ty you though for the reminder. so far they get along well and the tsn is growing faster then the rtc atm.

I was fine tell the RTC hit around 12 inches then mine became teritorial as far as i could tell hes is teritorial over a distance of around 3 times his lenght. so up untell they where both 14 or so inches in lenth I had no problem in my 6 ft log tank. After that was when things started to go down hill. This is why i made the 300 gallon wide and flat instead of tall like others im hoping to by some time.
Another side note i have come acrost is that the older the TSN gets the more it seems to seak out curents in the tank to swim in.
My fish have suffered do to everything getting put on hold for the last 3 months of my wifes pregnancy I hope yours do better then mine.

Lil' update of these guys... growing like weeds.. picky eaters.. THe TSN only eats live fish. and the RC prefers nightcrawlers and live fish.. Massivore is soemtimes taken if they get hungry enough but they are finicky eaters. I always end up with the Picky ones! THe TSN is pretty shy yet but nowhere near as bad as some catfish. He hangs with the RC most the time, or is up in the floating weeds.

You'll need to get them on shrimp and other non live food if you ever hope to raise them full size. Also will cut down on parasites, and nasty stuff. Trick is not to give in. May take a few weeks, but eventually they will take non live foods. Looking good btw.

The RTC has started takeing massivore but the TSN is very stubborn, ive just been giving them enough live to keep them from getting to skinny. dont want to stunt them. What size would be good to fast them? im worried doing it while theyre still so young will stunt them. any suggestions in perticular for the TSN? i was thinking getting some tilapia ect and cutting it into bite sized peices for them. tried frozen krill, and the TSN refused it! I also keep a pretty strict worming schedule since in general i feed alot of live, and have for years.

things ive tried.

frozen bloodworms
frozen krill
frozen beefheart ( treat food but thought it was worth a shot)
NLS large fish formula pellets

the RTC eats

massivore
nightcrawlers

both eat

goldfish

I dont feed shrimp since around here its hard to find them without preservatives on a consistant basis.

They are good to go for fasting right now. I always fast mine from day one once I figured it out. I start off with frozen blood worms. Seems to be like crack for baby catfish. Usually as soon as I put them in the tank they will eat it from an eye dropper. Just melt the cube in a cap with a little warm water, then suck it up with the dropper. Put right in front of the catfish mouth and squeeze it out. Wish I had a vid of when I had my tiny, tiny baby catfish sucking on an eye dropper like it was their baby bottle lol. After they got fat and happy off that for a few weeks I always moved on to frozen krill, and from frozen krill to chopped fresh shrimp. THen I will start trying to get them to take floating cichlid pellets from the top. Usually doesn't take too long. Hardest one by far was my filamentosum. Got to cut out the feeders all together, and don't put a single one in the tank. Wait a few days after the last feeding and do a tank cleaning. once fish have settled down that night add a couple cubes of blood worms and see if they take too it. THey should have frozen blood worms at your LFS. If not then the store is crap and find a different one. Even turn out the lights except a distant one so that you can watch them take it the first time. Let me know how this works. Usually does the trick for me every time.
