Broken Arrow, OK
well.... I took the female out of the main tank... the male made a bubble nest... I couldn't see any eggs (but it doesn't mean there aren't any) and he defends the bubble nest like crazy.... I was reading and it said that if they made the bubble nest and they haven't spawned yet the the male will attract the female.... well I put her back in the tank... the male downright attacked her... he was defending the nest... I saw some eggs at the base of the water spryte... I don't know if they are snail or betta eggs.... well I am pretty sure he wouldn't be defending it if there wasn't eggs but is it possible that there isn't eggs?

and the red and green betta are trying to court with the female when I put her in their bowls...

we also got more bettas.... a green/blue betta with a black head... a red betta with a violet body.... and a fringed tail green and red betta....

the tank pic is (left to right)
the green, blue betta with black head... then the main tank with my pearl betta... then the fringe tailed betta... and then the red betta with violet body and then the female betta.... we are getting probably 2 more female bettas.....

here are pics..... I re-arranged the main tank a little bit... beware of the blurry pics! :WHOA: after the pics of listed fish there is the male betta defending the bubble nest... in the last pic I inverted the colors and I believe the darker "bubbles" are eggs...

kk probably by now you have the little baby bettas but if you think that you have eggs in the future then check the bottom of the tank under the nest. If the pair have spawned and then you may be able to see little white specs, which are the eggs. Now one thing that I hoped that you knew before you bred them is that you cannot have any substrated in the aquarium at all!!The baby fry when just hatched will continously wriggle and free themselves from the nest and if not ready will fall to the bottom and their tiny size allows them to fit right into the spaces between gravel chunks and the male will not be able to find them. Thats what happened to me when I started a few years back and lost about 100 baby fry this way until I caught on. Another thing that you should know is that the male will continue to put the fry in the nest until they are too big for him to fit in his mouth which is a terror. You should take the male out three days after the spawn whether you see babies or not. If you know that they are there you should remove them as he will eventually turn on the babies and eat them. If you have any more questions or want to know anything else email me at archie_andrews666@hotmail.com or brandonmcleod89@hotmail.com.

 this also applies to the eggs themselves, as they fall to the ground after the female releases her eggs...
