Hi guys,

Two weeks ago I picked up three extra channa's. Now I have 5 of them in my tank. I've got two slightly bigger ones, which have formed a pair. I even think the male is breeding right now! (see my topic in other part of the SH section). unfortunately, the new ones are most likely an other variant of gachua, since their colours are a little diff. So I now got a pair of two different types of gachua :(

I added floating plants and the channa feel much better now!

very nice looking tank...you have done a great job!

Thanks for your kind replys. I am pretty happy with the tank myself. But IRL there is a lot of algue in the tank. In the future I want to give this tank a more natural look. This will mean less plant species (there's about 12 species now) and all biotope correct plants. But this will need some research, and I'll have to decide how biotope correct I want it excactly. For this I will also need to figure out the species of Gachua I have, which will be pretty hard I guess.

Friday, just after I posted these pictures, I went down to feed the fish. And then I noticed my male was collecting little channa from the bottem :D. It was a very pretty sight. But this morening it seems like they are all gone :(. Better luck next time!

have you checked for a bulge in the males mouth , they are mouth brooders and he may have collected them back up . saying that the others in the tank may have eaten them ,

the first pics is sp turquoise a variety of gachua , the newer fish are indeed a diferant species of gachua .

also will you be comming to the international channa meeting in holland lars . there will be lots of info on theese guys and many others in the talks we have arranged

cheers col

hi col,

Friday and Saturday afternoon my fish were very active with their fry. They were also chasing the other 3.

They constantly released the fry thru their gills and them collected them from the bottem again (both male and female, although female sucked at it :P). Yesterday I saw nothing of this, neither today. The male is also eating again. I assume they cant eat with fry in their mouth? The pair is also very tolerant against the other three again.

The fish on the 2nd, 3rd and 5th pic are the same species I think. I bought these from a breeder who only has one pair of gachua. So they should be the same. My male (not shown on pictures) is a diff species (its from LFS), and the fish on the 4th pic is also from the LFS, so it could be another species. I'll take some pics of all 5 of them soon.

The 2nd pic shows the dominant female, which is around 13-15 centimeters. the other pictures show the younger fish, which are around 10cm. The male is around the same size as the female. This (age and dominance) could explain the diff in colour.

And I'd love to go to the meeting! When and where will it take place? I assume (the way you talk about it) you will be there to col ? I'd lvoe to meet specialists and some other channa keepers!

thanks for reading!
Lars
