I just moved everyone to their long term grow out tanks. I will finilize stocking once everyone puts on some size and I figure out what size/how many tanks I am going to need. I'm becoming a hoarder.. :(

x12 exCichlasoma festae growing out in the 125 gallon to get a pair. They have doubled in size from 1/4" to 1/2" TL. Finally starting to show some recognizeable colors as festae. Although my camera/skills does them no justice what so ever.

x4 exCichlasoma cf. ornatum growing out with the featae and a BN pleco. I didn't intend to keep this species but finally broke down. They are 1"-1 1/2" TL. I know it won't last but watching them school with the festae makes me smile.. :D

And of course the Nandopsis tetracanthus they have set up shop right in the middle of the 300 gallon and chase of anyone coming close to their wood/stone pile. I have yet to wash and add any pots to this tank but they don't seem to mind. I can't even catch a decent pic they are always chasing everyone away.

The Paratheraps zonatus 'Rio Carolina' are frustrating me. I have had numerous conversations with my LFS about them NOT being Paratheraps sp. 'coatzacoalcos' but they say Rusty said they are. They display vibrant red in the caudal fin but not a single one has the tell tale red band across the snout that aquamojo's display. I think they are 100% Paratheraps zonatus but if you guys disagree, please let me know and also why.

I have one more species to track down but it's going to take a little bit to find the right ones. Looks like I stayed closer to SA than I thought I was going to stray... :nilly:

Wow, those Paratheraps are gorgeous! What is the temperament like on those? If you end up with too many, I have a really nice A. robertsoni that I am looking to re-home (I've got two males and they don't like each other).

It is pretty strange to see you with all these CAs, I thought you were a straight-up Eartheater kind of guy... :D

very nice growouts bro:) good luck with the festae and ornatums. the zonatus looks great. And i would almost agree with you as them being zonatus:)

Thanks for using the cf. ornatum, even if you did use the wrong genus!! ;)

Can't blame you for not passing them up, pretty fish and look good with the festae. Besides, SA are prettier than CA, so of course you had to get both festae and cf. ornatum!!!

I'm not a Paratheraps guy, but I'd follow Rusty's ID. Arguing with him about CA ID's would be like arguing Satanoperca ID's with Wayne Leibel or Lee Newman!! :grinno: But that's not to say there wasn't a mix up when they got them from Rusty. Perhaps emailing him directly?

Hopefully you will get a good shot of the cubans, I think they have one of coolest patterns of all the CA's.

It looks like they are all growing well. It is beautiful to watch young Festae swimming in general peace together. Then at 5" they go through their "Highlander" phase. What other species are you hunting down? Care to share?

Thanks Dan! I was/am an eartheater guy but am trying to stock my tanks with fish closer to my water perams. You have any idea how nice it is to do water changes without RO? Sooo nice.. Funny that once I decided to start keeping CA's I still ending up going the festae and ornatum route. Just can't shake the SA in me I guess

Well that's embarrasing! What genus should I be using? I was going off Rapps list I though. Is it just the the nomenclature of ex 'Cichlisoma' part or a different genus all toghether? Thanks in advance Chris!

The invoice on the P. zonatus says "Veija zonatus Rio Carolina". I know the Veija genus is no longer valid but after talking with Mo, he mentioned that Paratheraps sp. 'coatzacoalcos' should have a red band across the snout which none of mine do. The importer mentioned Rusty's ID (the current source of most all CA's at the wet spot BTW) when they brought them in. If it's questionable I figured it best to stick with the most likely P. zonatus ID from the homework I've done.. Good idea on emailing him directly, I am not questioning what he is providing, more what it was sold to me as for the record.

Thanks Al! I am enjoying it while it lasts. One of the main reasons I decided to buy fry and grow them out myself. I want to hand pluck the pair I'm aiming to keep based on temperment.
