My redtail cat was still eating gravel and has been going on for over two weeks. Yesterday I move him into a 20 gallon tank with no substrate. This morning I checked on him to find a bunch of gravel on the bottom of my tank that he passed. Good news. However, now I know why he has been eating them. Now when he stops swimming he slowly starts floating up. I think he may have a swim bladder infection or something and that's why he was eating gravel to keep himself down on the floor. Pretty smart little guy. Anyway, what do you think is wrong with his swim bladder and what should I treat him with? Thanks.

You would think passing gravel would be a deterrent.:WHOA:

I have never heard of this but if you are worried try an antibiotic laced food.

That's funny because this is the second redtail cat that I have that has done this. The other one ended up dying as I tried to wait it out for him to pass the gravel- this was years back. You should have seen all the gravel this little cat had in his stomach. I am going to monitor him for a couple of days and see how he does. If he doesn't improve then I will treat him as you mentioned.
