FRESHWATER STINGRAYS ON CITES?
From 4-6 April 2006 the Shark Working Group of the CITIS Animals
Committee will meet in London. One of the topics in this meeting, which
is a preparation to the Animals Committee meeting later this year in
Peru, is the status of freshwater stingrays. CITES listing of several
species is under discussion. Of course OFI will, in cooperation with our
colleagues of PIJAC USA and OATA defend the interest of the trade,
however, unfortunately the trade has extremely little information at
hand on the actual situation, on the species exported in our trade, the
quantities, etc. A previous call for input did not result in the needec
information and for that reason we come to you again. Only with proper
information we can do something.
