Hey all,

since I decided to sell my big tank I have had a lot of work done. I decided for 2 smaller tanks instead of one big one.

Reasons include but are not limited to...I have more options on stocking (because the datnioid still is agressive towards mid-top water fish), less space taken up by the tanks (in my case) and I can move more easily if I need to; the 2 tanks can be moved by 2 people, instead of 4 for the 220....

So, I got myself a well known Juwel rio 400 (150x50x60 cm) and a custom tank of 130x50x60.

The first tank to set-up is the rio, the other one is coming when the big tank is gone so it can go on it's intended place, the rio is now in the living room and will be moved when the big tank is gone as well.

The rio will have the Datnioides pulcher (34 cm, 13") and the Panaque (40 cm, 15").

One thing wich made the combo so good was that while the Panaque was combined with Polypterus he sometimes got hold of some shrimp, smelt or other things he can't eat much off. I decided it was best to keep the panaque only with mid/top water fish, that don't eat messy.

My Datnioides was obviously the best fish for the tank, because he takes food directly from the top of the tank and shows really well when he's full (he won't come up to the water surface anymore) so I can make shure the Panaque won't get any foods wich are bad for him.

Another thing was that the Datnioid stays agressive to any other fish I put in with him, the Panaque is the only one who's able to hold it's own so far. I have tried cichla, arowana, gars and more, but non worked on the long term.

But with a tank this size I feel that the big Datnioid and the big Panaque is a good stock.

So after all the talking, it's time for a picture. I just today put the Panaque in, while I put the Datnioid in 2 days ago. The moving was a pain in the a@@, not in the last place because they both are huge and powerfull fish.

The only incident involved the Datnioid, wich I took out of the cooler after dripping (with my hands) when he started moving, I had never experienced this before with my Datnioid when he was out of the water, so I was supprised and lost grip. He fell on top of the tank cover....I pushed him inside the water. Luckly he didn't fell on the floor or behind the tank :WHOA: The only damage now is 2/3 missing scales on his tailbase.

I have kept the tank simple, gravel will be added, but after the tank is placed on it's final position. The tank is filtered by 2 Eheim 2217 cannisters and the internal Juwel filter, wich I will use for zeolite and carbon and for hiding the intake hoses of the cannisters. There's a internal Eheim powerline 2252 in there for now, but that will be taken out later for a clean look :D

Thanks for reading.....here's the pic, more coming when I find some time to take some more.

Thanks guys! You can see the tie-rap around the wood wich was added because I was afraid the Panaque would make the bogwood fall over.

There's one intake of the cannisters in the Juwel internal, the other one is still to be done, but the store wasn't able to supply enough tubing, so it will be done on a later date.

nice :)
im still sad about ur big tank leaving though :(
but for your other comming tank u shud do the congicus and snakeheads or somethin :)

Awsome pix as usual Koen... that's one nice arse dat.....impressive royal too

Thanks guys!

I am doubting about the other tank. I want fish that not outgrow the tank, like datnioids, redtail paraya etc (maybe with some cichla grow-outs though). The congicus cannot be combined with that, because those fish will be bought small. The channa maybe can for a while, but will outgrow/eat the other fish.

Good thing about the other tank is that it has a huge 4' sump and a good size overflow (40 mm or 1.5"), so I can filter it well for a high bioload (lot's of mid water swimmers).

Thanks guys! Yes, the congicus are the only ones left.
