Have been getting a growth spurt out of my heckelii latelly and thought I would share. The larger one is getting broader with some decent streamers finally and developing allot of blue in the tail. The smaller one (don't know the sex of either) is just now developing streamers.

Love these fish.... PIGS....

The larger of the two is about 4" and the smaller is about 2.5' neither including the legnth of the trailers. How are your coming along?

Beautiful! I think this is my next fish. Has anyone had a problem with other cichlids nipping off the trailers?

beautiful geo, my heckellis are starting to get some nice trailers too...same with my brachys and manaus

Someone needs to start a "trailer only" thread! Feel free to throw in a pic or two, I would love to see yours as well. These are a very personable fish with stunning colors. Would love for anyone with full grown adults to kick in a pic or two.

What other cichlids are you considering keeping with them?

Probably severums, a chocolate cichlid, and maybe a few smaller guys like keyholes or Laetacara. I've just noticed that my H. severus is really pushy and occasionally he/she frays my chocolate's fins when they quarrel, so I'm wondering if the same would happen with the heckelii.

Mine played well with severums.
