Just went to Dahlonega GA yesterday for a little river rock hunting with my daughter, found an awesome piece of driftwood too until I got it home and cut it, CEDAR!! good job I have the sense to check before throwing it in the tank. Anyway, the rocks look pretty cool, I like the color and tone variations.

What's wrong with cedar?

Looks awesome Joe! I found a local source yesterday too. You should try and find some that are about twice that size and place towards the back. It will create more depth and make the tank look deeper. :D I like the one on the far right the best.

yeah i dont know the problems with cedar? i used to have a big piece in my tank of cedar with no problems

Cedar is a pine tree that has oils and and saps that arent good for a closed system like an aquarium. Even human who harvest pine trees wear masks to prevent inhalation of saps. If you can smell the cedar there is still much more than just tannins left in that wood. I wouldnt risk it and would either order some driftwood off ebay or find and hardy more stable wood. If you really have your heart set on cedar you can cure it, But that will take a couple months and a good bit of alcohol.
*Tank looks great BTW.

Yeah, I have studied fish and fish keeping for a while and had read that early on in my learning. I didn't know what kind it was until I got it home. I was planning a three stage test. First was to pressure wash it to see if it was rotten, next was to cut and third was to boil. Well I got to step two and could smell the oils real strong. So I never got to step three, now it looks pretty in my garden. Thanks for he compliment.

I wanted many more, but i went with my 4 yr old who made paying attn really difficult, I even fell in up to my knees almost (yeah I had my shoes on, the water was FREEZING!!!) I plan on going back because my fav is that big colorful beauty in front and there was so many to choose from. Reminded me of those stones in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. I have some larger more jagged rocks I picked up and was debating putting those in too, but we'll see. Matt said he might put some of the pix I have been sending him on his website!! I am going to post two more shots from today. I am getting the hang of tank shots (been shooting people professionally for 20+ yrs but never really got into tank shots)

Thanks to all for the kind words.
