I finally have my 240 up and running and I can't wait until it is cycled so I can get my fish from Jeff Rapps. How long does it generally take to cycle a tank? I am still up in the air about what to get, Umbees or Jags.

It depends, are you able to use established media from another tank or is this all from scratch?

A buddy of mine did a fishless cycle using pure ammonia and I think it took him several weeks if I recall.

I've always been fortunate to use media from other tanks to get things going much faster.

My 75 took about a month to cycle. I didn't even think to use media from my other tank to help it along. I did a fish in cycle with guppies.

I just started up a 125 with some borrowed substrate and 7 days of seachem stability. I just threw 32oz cup full of gravel from another tank into a filter. Added fish on day one. I have used seachem stability alone in the past. Works great. Just take it easy on stocking.

I added fish next day on my new 220. I seeded it with established media. But I did daily water test and did water changes as needed.

No media, from scratch

Use a filter, water and substrate from another tank and you won't have to wait long.
