updates on firemouths

well still ahve the 3 now and they hide alot when im in the bedroom. how can i get them to get use to me? can i just leave the sastle in there for a week ( not a regaler castle its a open top castle ) so they can get use to me? and pixs commin later or tonite
 
Good to know they are still hangin in there. To get them used to you spend as much time as possible in front of the tank and feed them more often and make sure you watch them when they are feeding because they'll get used to you being near them. Getting over the step where they'll feed in front of you is basically the hard part but after that the will come out whenever. Dithers help as well but I wouldn't recommend you get any because of your small tank. I had the same problem with my Salvini but i got him used to me.
 
I have 3 FireMouth Cichlids myself, who are not shy at all. What I did was train them by lightly tapping on the glass before each feeding. After a while they associate the tapping with feeding, and they get use to being around the tank. When they are feeding sit in front of the tank and watch them, they'll slowly get use to your presence and won't hide from you.

It may be how you approach the tank, if you walk up to the tank to fast they see you as a predator and threat, and hide from you. So try the tapping before each feeding, and they'll get use to you soon.

When I walk by my Firemouths tank, they come out to see what I'm doing, I don't even have to feed them, they just come out to see what it is I'm up to.
 
Also, I forgot, add more hiding places for them, I know it's sounds weird, but when a fish knows they have a few hiding spots that are easily accessible they tend to come out more, because they know if there's a threat that a hiding place is only a quick snap away for them.
 
How would the filter harm them? Unless there's fry or eggs, you're safe.
 
i think he means being sucked up, as i said in the other thread i dout that it got sucked up cause its to powerfully as all of them would be gone i think the was something wrong with your water of you sprayed somethink in there by accident or got beaten by the stronger male
 
i dont use any sprayin stuff by my tank i dont even alow my mom by mom tank ( she hates them neways lol ) and i just use water to scrub the front of the tank from water marks
