OK folks, I know that a while back a few members obtained c. gaucho. Any updates? Also, I know there was a little bit of confusion about max size. For those of you who have actually owned or own gaucho, do you have an experienced opinion as to what max size might be? 6-8" or 12"+ Thanks for imparting your experiences with us. ES

How hard is it to find Gaucho in the hobby?
I'm slightly interested in this species..

If you're only slightly interested for a Crenicichla in this hobby, you aren't going to find it. You have to be PASSIONATE about it, and be dedicated to finding them before you can really get places...;). Having said that, Rapps used to have some...;)

Ken from fish farm stated a couple of months ago on a thread that they would reach 11-12 inches.
I'll have to see if I can find that thread.

Again, as originally mentioned, there seems to be a lot of differing opinions regarding this subject. Alot of it can be attributed to misidentification, as well as regional differences. However, a few individuals here received a few specimens over the past year from Oliver and Rapps, both who concur with the fishbase bio stating that this species is not 12"+. What i think would be interesting is to hear from those folks regarding their opinions from experience on the species, temperment, size, breeding ease...... Thanks again, ES

Gaucho can get to 8", but will spawn at 3 - 4". Pretty easy to breed, but as with most of the pikes you have to watch their behavoir around the second week of fry free-swimming. My intuition told me to remove the male Sunday evening and I put it off. Monday afternoon all the fry were gone and the female was dead.

I've got another trio, but the male looks a little different...has spots along the side like Cr. scotti.
