Just today recieved my package from big als, a cascade 300 and a dirt magnet senior.
First thoughts, wow the cascade is a bit bigger then i expected it to be, which is always good lol.
Second thoughts, OMG the cascade is broke. From what i can gather, those stupid ups guys threw my package around and dented the side of the box, which while doing this they managed to break off a piece of plastic where the water comes out of.....no big deal i simply glued the 2 pieces on (glue on the outside where no water comes in contact of course) and its good as new.
So far the cascade has impressed me immensly. its got more then enough room for whatever media you want to run in it, and is almost like a mini canister. I know for my 29 gallon tank its much much more then enough filtration.
The dirt magnet is also a pretty cool little sponge filter. its triangle shaped so its easy to hide in a back corner and you don't notice it very much like bigger sponge filters (hydro
) although it doesn't have the filtering power of those bigger ones.
this also seems too do a good job filtering and when i put it in the tank i stirred up a little bit of fish poo on the bottom (need to do a w/c tommarow) the sponge seemed to clear it up pretty fast.
so here is my filtration running on 2 of my tanks:
29 planted with 10 tiger barbs, pair of kribs and 3 yoyos: cascade 300
55 with senegal, 4-5" oscar, 5" 4line pim, needlefish: Magnum HOT 250, off-brand 150gph filter loaded with bio media, dirt magnet senior
so far everything is doing awesome, clear nice water and 0 ammonia and nitrites (even though the 0 and 0 were the same before the increase in filtration lol)
