I am in the process of upgrading to a new Juwel Rio 300 which I believe to be 350 liters. I will be taking the internal filter out to create more space and the surface area will be approx 1000 inches Sq.

My primary focus is going to be geophagus / satanoperca and I was wondering roughly how many I would be able to stock in that tank. If I avoid the larger species and stick to the 8/9 inch max species, how many could I comfortably put in that tank?

depending on footprint maybe 6 or 8

If its a 6' tank, then 8, but only a 4', then 4 is max.

Foot print is 48inch x 21inch.

I was kind of hoping to get more than just 4 in the tank. I already have an adult satanoperca lecousticta (7.5inch) an small red hump and a small jurupari but certainly wanted to add a couple more if possible, maybe a couple of the smaller species like orangeheads or neambi??

Four would have taken up your entire bottom level, but the fish you have already fill it. You won't be able to fit any geos in there. If you upgrade to a 6' tank, you could add 4 of the smaller geos species, but as it stands I wouldn't recommend adding anything else to the bottom layer. You could add a small group of four angels or a large school of tetras for the top though.
