Hello. So currently I have a 120G tank with a FX5 and a AquaClear, a 55G with a AquaClear 70, and a 29G with a AquaTech 20-40.

I want to upgrade some of my tanks. My parents won't let me get any more than three tanks. I want to upgrade my 55G tank to a 75-90G tank and then use the 55G for saltwater. So that means I have to tank down the 29G tank. The problem is it still has fish in it and will continue to have fish in it until I can rehome them. I would like to upgrade the filter on the 29G for the time being. What should I get? I was thinking of eventually moving the AC70 from the 55G to the 29G tank. I would then upgrade the 55G filtration. But what should I get? I would like it to be able to handle the 75G or 90G that I will most likely eventually buy. The only problem is will the AC70 be overkill for community fish in a 29G tank? I think the flow might be too much. I guess I could always buy a AC50 for the 29 but then what do I do with the AC70? All suggestions are appreciated thanks.

id go a 2217 or fx5 for the 90G tank and move the ac70 onto the 29G. if the flows to high just clog the intake with some filter media? never used a hob lol. but dont they hit the surface? not creating much flow anyways?

I wouldn't really like to buy another FX5 because of the price. I see the 2217 is almost half the price. Will it still be ideal for a 90G tank? What about the AquaTop canisters w/UV?

cant comment on the aquatop dont think we have them over here? I have a 2217 running on a 180 and the waters is clean with a power head going too bio is fine but this tank only stocks a full grown jag pair so its nothing insane. my 150 and 75 are higher stocked and are pretty fine also. I just like an FX5s as I dont need to add power heads for my longer tank lol.

If the 2217 does not get done what u want but I believe it will be fine u can always add a 2215 or even another later on as your fish grow etc.

Alright thank you.

Anyone else have any ideas/suggestions?

Alright let's try a different approach as I'm getting very little feedback. So currently I have a 6-8 inch Red Tiger Oscar in my 55G tank that I will be moving into either a 75G or 90G tank later on. I would like to get him some tank mates. I was thinking a JD maybe a EBJD also and a pair of convicts. Will this work? And what else could I get? Any other suggestions? The fish will have to be able to live in the tank for life as I am not sure if I'll be able to upgrade later on...thanks in advance

EBJD wont work with an oscar, they should really just be kept with there own. Not sure about the other 2 never mixed them with oscars. If you do end up getting another cichlid I would just add a pleco but not a common. you will defs need the 90G tank for 2 larger fish imo. 75G is ideally the size an oscar should have alone.

Ok thanks. I was pretty sure a EBJD wouldn't work but I figured it was worth asking. So if I got the 90G tank, would a Aquatop CF500UV with a 9W UV be enough filtration? Or would I need to add a AC 70 or 110? Also what could I do for stocking? I have a Oscar that must go into the new tank but other than that I'm open to all suggestions. Thanks

never used an aquatop so cant say best to hit google up I am sure lots of information will be there. Its hard to say what will and what wont work filter wise, I found with eheims I always need to add a second one with more mech or another filter with FX5s I find its all a bit more even. One setup I see being mentioned a lot is XP3-4 with a AC HOB apparently they can be found extremely cheap second hand so maybe look into this.

as for stocking all comes down to you, I personally would go with a 120G and get 2 oscars in hope of getting a pair or 2 females, then some SDs. or Oscar,SD and a gold serv.
