upgrading filter

im upgrading my filtration on my 29 gallon from a whisper power 30 filter to a aquaclear 300/70 filter. can i just put the new filter on there or do i have to seed the filter somehow?

Move the media from the whisper to the AC, all the bacteria is in the whispers media. It'll automatically seed the AC and will be an instant or shortlived minicycle. If you just switch the filters out you'll have to cycle the entire tank again.

the media isnt the same though

you could just run both filters till the new filter is ready to take over.

or as said use the old filter media in the new filter to seed it.

how long would it take to seed a new filter

i would run both for 2 or 3 days

run both for a week to be sure....
but i dont really use test kits...
if you do 2-3 day is fine
