I currently have 3 fx5 set up on my tank. Got 1 set up for mechanical filtration and the other 2 for bio. Was thinking of replacing 1 with an eheim 2180. That way i would get more bio and the heater under the tank. I willq then put the fx5 on my growout tank. Think this is a good idea?

I love my 2180 but don't get the one with the 500 watt heater built in. The heater element stops working very fast. I have gone trough 3 of them in about a year and a half.

I do not think changing out an fx5 for another canister filter would really give you much increase at all, probably none, a sump or other would be far better if your looking for an increase in filtration. Whats your water testing showing so far?? Are you lacking in filtration at all. Could do an inline heater as well.

My filteration is lacking a little. I am getting ammonia readings ever other day. I just added the 3rd fx5 the other day. I originally bought it for my growout tank. I was looking at the 2180 because it holds 12 liters of bio media vs the fx holding 6 liters. Might have to look at the 2262 also wasthinking maintence would be easier on the 2180
